Tilt at some windmills

Not my favorite, not being very religious, I feel my power is within me…but good for discussion

God, give me grace to accept with serenity
the things that cannot be changed,
Courage to change the things
which should be changed,
and the Wisdom to distinguish
the one from the other.
Living one day at a time,
Enjoying one moment at a time,
Accepting hardship as a pathway to peace,
Taking, as Jesus did,
This sinful world as it is,
Not as I would have it,
Trusting that You will make all things right,
If I surrender to Your will,
So that I may be reasonably happy in this life,
And supremely happy with You forever in the next.

Why should we accept with serenity the things that cannot be changed? What cannot be changed? Sure, the laws of physics can’t be changed, hopefully the earth’s orbit, the tides, the way plants give us oxygen, and the like. So what are the things that cannot be changed? This prayer has always given me pause. What things cannot be changed?

Yes, there are some things that can’t be fixed, but are there really? If you are born with a birth defect, or have cancer, are we to accept that? Is there a balance between accepting it and fighting it? Or do we accept for ourselves and fight for others? I never did like this quote.

What are the things in your life you truly can’t change? What are things in the world that you truly can’t change? And by change do we mean affect?

We don’t have to fight every battle, but when it is important, step up and do what you can.

Serenity comes from doing the right thing, and we don’t have to accept anything. I think there is actually very little we cannot change. And I personally think we should look deeper into ourselves for change. Tilting at windmills isn’t always such a bad thing.
